This is directly from following the U.S. news in March and April 2025, seen by some as the beginning of a constitutional crisis since our Executive branch is close to openly defying the Judicial branch. The initial inspiration for the chorus was a snarky tweet by the self-described dictator of El Salvador mocked a U.S. court order calling back planes of hastily deported immigrants suspected of being gang members, saying, “Oopsie... Too late”. The government admitted in court filings that it had made an “administrative error” one of the men had been specifically granted protection from being deported to that country, which also translates to “oops”. The bridge and final chorus were inspired by a point made many places, notably in an opinion issued by a Reagan-appointed 4th Circuit judge, J. Harvie Wilkinson: “If today the Executive claims the right to deport without due process and in disregard of court orders, what assurance will there be tomorrow that it will not deport American citizens and then disclaim responsibility to bring them home?”
I think I did it again:
Deported a gang.
Some might have been framed.
But maybe most were dangerous men.
No time to arraign a non-citizen.
To improve the next Census,
A directive’s typically quick.
Due process isn’t.
Chorus: |
Oops! I did it again. But now it’s too late: They’re all on a plane. Due process would’ve — Oops! This would be outlawed, But we sent them abroad. They might be innocent. |
You see, the problem is this:
I gave them away.
Decisions by leaders like him are all his.
Besides! That’s why we paid.
And we’ll pay him for more.
Be very afraid.
To improve the next Census,
A directive’s typically quick.
Due process? Slow!
(Chorus)
Oops, I
Did it again to some more.
Then lost
All their names and IDs.
Oops, you
Think I sent people abroad
Who might be citizens.
(Chorus)
Final chorus:
Chorus: |
Oops! I did it again. But now it’s too late: You’re all on a plane. Due process lets you — Oops! This would be outlawed, But we sent you abroad. You might be innocent. |
