All over the world there are filkers who yearn
For places they wish they could go.
Not only for Dune or for Pell or for Pern:
But beaches or bars* or a show.

* you may sub “pub”, but the American term “bar” alliterates with “beach”

They seek out a crowd as they sit home alone,
The second best way that they know:
At every filk circle in every time zone,
Their spirits need somewhere to go.

Chorus: Soon they’re following a filk song.
Following a theme.
Circles take place in a virtual space.
With many raised hands on the screen.

And if you would go where these devotees go
There’s plenty of room for you there
In blank squares or avatars all in a row
And video too if you dare.

And if you once thought of a virtual con
As novel, exciting and rare,
You now wonder where all your evenings have gone
With not a free weekend to spare.

Now you’re following a filk song.
Following a theme.
Circles take place in a virtual space.
With many raised hands on the screen.
