Gotcha! Be careful what you wish for on that monkey's paw!
I dug that one out of the Calvin and Hobbes Tenth Anniversary book, artwork ©1996 by Bill Watterson. (Turns out to be from Homicidal Psycho Jungle Cat , ©1994). It's from a Sunday strip where Calvin's feelings about how the school systems is stifling his creativity become a series of colorful metaphors: a square peg, parroting information, being herded, an assembly line for knowledge, etc.
